The prophet Isaiah challenged God’s people to build a spiritual wall around Jerusalem through prayer. “On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have appointed watchmen; all day and all night they will never keep silent. You who remind the Lord, take no rest for yourselves; and give Him no rest until He establishes and makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth” (Isaiah 62:6–7).

But, Ezekiel said no one would pray and build the wall. “I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30).

God expects His people to take no rest and give Him no rest until He builds and establishes the place where His glory resides. In other words, God desires His kingdom to expand and flourish. God has shown us the primary way that happens is through prayer.

Scripture ties another action together with prayer. That is fasting. You can fast for a day, a meal, from a food (meat, bread, or sweets), or from things (such as media). The Bible is full of promises of what happens when God’s people fast and pray.
